Many of you are tired of feeling lousy, and frustrated to say the least. This website is for all of you who haven’t been helped, been told nothing is wrong,  feel nobody understands, and for those of you who have wondered if it’s all in your head. This website, and the information on it, is the hope and justification you all deserve!

Autoimmune conditions and what you should know…

If you have an autoimmune condition such as Hashimoto’s, Pernicious Anemia, Celiac, Lupus, Hives (Urticaria), Sjogren’s, Type I Diabetes, Rheamatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Alopecia(hair loss), Autoimmune Hepatitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Crohn’s Disease, Scleroderma, Ulcerative Colitis, Vitiligo or any autoimmune condition, the information on this website is to help you.

Symptoms of autoimmunity typically go up and down with some good days but many bad days.  The symptoms include extreme fatigue, feeling like you have the flu everyday, muscle and joint aches, chronic pain, lack of motivation, muscle cramping, sensitivity to cold, muscle weakness, inflammation, swelling, weight gain, numbness/tingling, and dry skin/ hair to name a few.   First and foremost, autoimmune conditions are one of the most mistreated and misdiagnosed conditions I see in practice everyday. Autoimmune conditions are at the center of the Fibromyalgia diagnosis, the Chronic Fatigue diagnosis, and the Chronic Pain diagnosis among others. The next few sentences are vitally important to you and your life moving forward…

  1. Healthcare’s approach to autoimmune conditions is to watch and wait. If your symptoms become bad enough you will be prescribed pain meds or immuno-suppressive medications/corticosteroids. As most educated healthcare providers will tell you, this is not a good long-term plan.
  2. You do not just have an autoimmune condition. Most, if not all, of my patients also have thyroid malfunction, adrenal issues, hormone imbalances, anemias, chronic viral infections and blood glucose issues that are not properly tested and certainly not properly treated. The complexities of autoimmune conditions, and related conditions listed above, are not well understood in the standard curriculum of most healthcare professions.

If you think you may have an autoimmune condition, or have been diagnosed with one, the following information, and understanding of this information, is extremely important.  There are, without few exceptions, other issues commonly present.  Below, you will find the most misdiagnosed/undiagnosed or mistreated conditions I see that are often present beyond just an autoimmune condition.  Please check to see if you have many of these common misdiagnosed/undiagnosed or mistreated conditions and symptoms.  It will help you understand what else is causing you to feel like you do. In order to heal, these also need to be corrected.  Read below…

Other common findings that can either cause autoimmunity, or a result of autoimmunity…

  • Digestive System Malfunction/Leaky Gut – Heartburn, irritable bowel, bloating, burping, abdominal pain, gas, constipation or loose bowels. Digestive malfunction can also lead to increased inflammation, swelling, asthma, allergies, depression, etc.
  • Chronic/Acute Infections – History of candida/yeast infections, UTI’s, viruses like hepatitis, Epstein Bar, Herpes, parasites, bacteria, etc. These will cause chronic inflammation due to increased immune response.
  • Liver Toxicity – fatigue, intolerance to high fat foods, abdominal pain hours after eating, dry itchy skin, nausea, pitting edema, joint pain, easy bruising, diabetes, headaches, to name a few. Liver is always involved due to the amount of toxins we are exposed to daily.  If you have had a gallbladder history, your liver IS involved in why you feel
  • Anemia – usually in the form of B12/ folate anemia/ pernicious anemia/ iron deficiency anemia. Fatigue and weakness due to low oxygen are common symptoms. If anemic, it is impossible to heal due to lack of oxygen to tissues.
  • Blood Sugar Imbalance – Too low = irritable/lightheaded if meals missed, jittery/anxious if meals missed, poor memory blurred vision, crave sweets, slow starter in the a.m. Too high = fatigue after eating, inability to lose weight despite low calorie diet, crave sweets, increased frequency of urination, increased thirst, high cholesterol, etc.
  • Adrenal Malfunction – fatigue, inability to deal with stress, you feel worn out, inability to lose weight, anxious, blood sugar issues, sleep issues (insomnia), muscle wasting/fat deposition, depression, tired upon waking even with long sleep, afternoon fatigue, weak nails, crave salt, dizziness when standing, etc.
  • Thyroid Malfunction – fatigue, depression, constipation, difficulty losing weight/weight gain, lack of motivation/mental sluggishness, thinning hair, dry hair/skin/nails, hair loss, cold hands/feet, etc.
  • Hormone Imbalances – anxiety, depression, fat deposition, mood swings, hot flashes, headaches/migraines, loss of motivation or zest for life, PMS, etc.
  • Brain Malfunction -brain fog, depression, poor memory, anxiety, chronic fatigue

5 Biggest Mistakes Made with Autoimmune Conditions

  1. The attack against self tissue “turns on” due to many possible factors. To help these conditions, these same factors must be addressed. This is just not done in healthcare.
  2. Medications are sometimes given to decrease the immune system’s attack against your own tissue. This is a short term option at best, because they will suppress your immune system leaving you susceptible to other disease/infections. In addition, this approach does not address “why” the immune system is attacking itself. This understanding is critical.
  3. Not addressing the digestive tract, which is a HUGE contributor to your autoimmune condition, is also a very common mistake. The digestive tract is responsible for 70% of your immune barrier. The research clearly shows this is an area that absolutely must be addressed properly.
  4. Not addressing hidden infections. Many autoimmune conditions were triggered by some sort of infection(s), or at the very least this was a contributing factor. It is critical to determine if active infections are present, as well as to properly address chronic infections too. This is commonly missed and is another critical mistake.
  5. The understanding that autoimmune conditions cannot be cured, according to science, but can absolutely controlled. This is not achieved by medications, but safely and effectively by addressing the causes of the immune system attack. These include the NF-KB signaling loop, digestive health/food sensitivity/leaky gut, liver malfunction, T cell and B cell balancing, infection, and blood glucose imbalances, to name a few. This understanding is grossly misunderstand and leads to countless years of unnecessary suffering. Address these common causes and “pac-man” that is attacking your cells can slow down dramatically as can the destruction and inflammation.

If you suffer from or have been diagnosed with Autoimmune issues, chances are you are FRUSTRATED to say the least. Here’s the reality…You’ve been to multiple doctors who have done many different tests and tell you everything is fine. If they did find something, they prescribe some type of medication to help relieve symptoms. Next thing you know you are taking multiple medications or supplements, nothing is fixed and you STILL feel terrible!

Please fill out the form on the right to learn how we treat the root of your problems not just your symptoms.
